Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow an attacker to execute code under the privileges of the application.

3. TECHNICAL DETAILS

3.1 AFFECTED PRODUCTS

The following versions of LAquis SCADA are affected:

  • LAquis SCADA versions prior to 4.3.1.870

3.2 VULNERABILITY OVERVIEW

3.2.1    OUT-OF-BOUNDS READ CWE-125

An attacker who convinces a valid user to open a specially crafted project file to exploit could execute code under the privileges of the application due to an out-of-bounds read vulnerability. 

CVE-2020-25188 has been assigned to this vulnerability. A CVSS v3 base score of 7.8 has been calculated; the CVSS vector string is (AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H).

3.4 RESEARCHER

An anonymous researcher working with Trend Micro’s Zero Day Initiative reported this vulnerability to CISA.

4. MITIGATIONS

LCDS recommends users update to Version 4.3.1.870 or later.

CISA recommends users take the following measures to protect themselves from social engineering attacks: 

Only use project files from trusted sources.

CISA reminds organizations to perform proper impact analysis and risk assessment prior to deploying defensive measures.
